How to Flirt - When you first meet a girl, flirting is crucial in providing a way into a romantic relationship and keeping you out of the friend zone. If you aren’t really used to the idea of flirting with someone, do not worry, it is a skill that can be learned and its also an art in itself. Flirting is all about banter and being witty. Sometimes people confuse it with being mean or cocky, and it can be taken the wrong way if done wrong. However, if done correctly, flirting can be a fun experience between two people.

Flirting boils down to to two things, with the first one being attitude. What kind of emotional state would you be if you were feeling flirtatious? Confident, sexy, funny, positive, perhaps? To flirt, its important to know that part of it lies in how you present yourself. If are withdrawn, blah, or whatever, people can usually sense that. If you are nervous about flirting, its alright. Think about how you interacted with the opposite sex when you were in fourth grade. Perhaps you had “cootie shots” or teased the other person to get their attention. It was all lighthearted, which brings me to the other things that flirting is – playful.

When you flirt with someone, its just being playful with them in some way, whether its teasing or playfully bumping into them. Its not meant to be serious, but something lighthearted. With that said, its alright to flirt with other people, including people you may not be attracted to. If you come in with the expectation that the only people you will flirt with is people you are attracted to, then you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. If you are attracted to the girl you are talking to, come in with the expectations that you want to genuinely enjoy her company and make her feel the same way, regardless of whether you get her number or go on a date.

There are several ways of flirting with someone. For example, you could give them a compliment, then tease them a little. You could say something like, “I think you’re a really awesome, too bad you’re kind of a dork”, then smile. The key is to be playful. It’s all about delivery with flirting, so you have to make it known that you are just teasing them. By complimenting, then teasing him/her, they think you are interested in them, but they aren’t not entirely sure – this is whats called sexual tension. Also, make sure to playfully touch them while talking to them. If you are standing next to him/her, nudge them a little, or lightly touch their arm or shoulder. Don’t leave it there too long, or look at it – it should appear natural. Other ways to break that touch barrier are games, like thumb fights or by comparing hands. Again, be playful! I can’t stress this enough. Its important to just be loose and smile. You want to look approachable, like you are having fun.
